Listen, listen! Jousting, turkey legs and kegs galore are coming to Bonner Springs very soon.
The 45th annual Renaissance Festival is back in town for a seven-week celebration. Tickets are on sale now, but here’s a roundup of all the ways to score a free ticket or two before the fair starts.
The festival will take place every weekend, rain or shine, from September 3 to October 15, with the exception of September 5 and October 10. The event takes place about fifteen minutes from downtown Kansas City at 663 North 130th St. in Bonner Springs near the Azura Amphitheater.
This year’s festival will be as big and festive as ever, with special themes for each weekend.
- September 3-5: Swashbucklers and Mermaids
- September 10-11: Highland Fling
- Sept. 17-18: Wine, chocolate and romance
- September 24-25: Shamrocks and Shenanigans
- October 1-2: Heroes and Villains
- October 8-10: Barbarian Brewer’s Day
- Oct. 15-16 Haunted Huzzah!
In addition to playful themes, there will be special events, shopping and dining available every weekend.
If you’re new to Renaissance Festival or want an affordable way to experience it all, check out all the ways to get a free or discounted ticket this season:
Early bird tickets
Early bird tickets for the festival are now on sale. Tickets purchased at the door will cost between $3 and $5 more than early bird prices. If you want to avoid spending more, buy your tickets in advance. Tickets can be bought here.
- Adults: $20.95
- Children 5 to 12 years old: $12.50
- Seniors: $18.25
- Students: $18.25
Honor students enter for free
If you know a student on the honor roll, they are eligible for a free ticket for their achievements. Students can bring their report card or test scores to the Renaissance Festival box office and get a free ticket for their hard work.
During the first three weekends of the festival, patrons can bring in five cans and get one free ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket. On the fifth weekend, October 1 and 2, you can bring five cans and get $5 off a ticket.
If you like to shop, this might be useful if you want a free ticket. If you spend $150 at festival vendors, you can take those receipts to the box office and get two free tickets. This deal will only work for the first three weekends of the festival.
College students get a free drink
College students can bring their ID to the festival September 3-5 and get $10 admission and a free drink.
Residents of select cities will have the chance to revel in the spirit of the Renaissance and a nice $3 off their tickets by showing ID or mail on certain days.
Here’s a breakdown of when the festival will celebrate each city with a discounted ticket:
- September 3-5: Olathe, Liberty and Leavenworth
- September 10-11: Omaha, Lee’s Summit and Parkville
- September 17-18: Independence, Manhattan and Shawnee
- September 24-25: Tonganoxia, Kansas City and Belton
- October 1-2: Lawrence, KCK and Saint-Joseph
- October 8-10: Blue Springs, Atchison and Riverside
- October 15-16: Bonner Springs, Lenexa and Overland Park
Veteran and Military Appreciation
On the second weekend of the festival, September 10-11, you can bring your military or veteran ID and get a free ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket.
Calling all bikers
If you’re a biker, you can get $5 off your ticket on September 17-18 if you show your motorcycle license.
Family fun weekend
On September 24 and 25, families can enjoy a weekend of family fun by purchasing two adult tickets and getting two free children’s tickets.
Bring your pets!
From October 8-10, pets will enter for just $5, down from $10.
On Monday, October 10, tickets at the door will cost $14.92 for adult tickets, down from $24.95.
Get your scouts and scouts in uniform. Scouts will get $5 off their ticket all weekend on October 15 and 16 when wearing their uniform at the door.
