Mingo Commission Releases Additional Information on Sterilization Voucher Program

WILLIAMSON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — The Mingo County Commission announced Friday that spay/spay vouchers will begin issuing Monday, July 11, 2022.

Vouchers will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis in Room 308-B of the Mingo County Courthouse from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. each business day while funds remain.

The voucher will only be available to residents of Mingo County who show up in person with photo ID as proof of residency. Vouchers cannot be obtained in someone else’s name, the recipient must present themselves to receive a voucher.

Although the program is available to all residents of Mingo County, noteworthy is the requirement that low-income residents be given priority. Applicants who receive public assistance must be able to provide information about the programs in which they are enrolled.

A limit of two vouchers per household will be in place and all procedures must be completed by November 5, 2022 for the vouchers to remain effective. Vouchers will be canceled after this date.

The voucher program will cover the medical procedure of sterilization. The necessary medications and/or vaccines are the responsibility of the animal’s owner.

Community cats will also be eligible for the scheme, but the Commission has made it clear that a ‘catch and release’ project will not be implemented. Community cats will need to be caught and transported to the veterinarian’s office in order to participate in the sterilization program.

This program was made possible by the Mingo County Commission in conjunction with the West Virginia Department of Agriculture Spay/Neuter Grant Program.
