Lagos State University, LASU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello on Monday announced a 50% reimbursement of tuition fees for academics.

However, to benefit from the program, students would need to maintain a GPA of 4.5 in each semester.

Olatunji-Bello revealed this during the registration ceremony of the 6,648 students admitted for the 2020/2021 academic session.

According to the VC, students in this category would be reimbursed N 28,500 out of the 57,000 tuition fees paid per session.

The refund, she added, would come at the end of each session.

“It’s part of our efforts to make life better and easier for our world-class students. It is also about encouraging our students and promoting healthy competition between them. When I was acting vice-chancellor a few years ago, we did the same thing, but the tuition fee then was N25,000.

“We are also going to introduce a system in which some of our students would go to school and work. We work with some companies and it would also help some of our students to earn money to meet some needs.

“We are currently ranked as the second best university in Nigeria and the best state university in the country. We are not relying on our oars because we hope to be the best in the West African sub-region and among the best on the continent in a few years, ”she said.

The VC instructed new students to focus, saying that “the distance between the matriculation ceremony and the graduation ceremony is wide but still short.”

“Pay attention to the friends you keep, the activities you engage in, and avoid vices like bigotry, bad exam practices and the like. We have the staff and facilities to make you world-class graduates at the end of your scholarship, ”she said.

Acting Dean of Student Affairs Dr Tajudeen Olumoko said more than 47,000 applicants have applied for admission to the university and students should consider themselves lucky to be admitted.
