Refund check is a start

The five largest oil companies made a profit of $35 billion in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 200% compared to the first quarter of last year. They are expected to make a record profit of $50 billion in the second quarter of this year.

Is the Glans editorial suggesting that these excessive profits should not be questioned and that Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin is doing our state a disservice? That the state should suffer by lowering gasoline taxes rather than relying on big oil profiteers?

I agree that a short gas tax holiday would benefit all drivers, including the trucking industry. But state politicians have instead decided to tackle the high inflationary prices that even non-drivers are experiencing by giving everyone in the state a refund check.

Think of it as an advance tax refund. Oh my God. Democrats are lowering our taxes. Thank you, Jacqui Irwin, for the work you do for your district and the state of California.
