JOHANNESBURG – The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development has urged all beneficiaries of the presidential job boosting program to refrain from abusing it.

The ministry said it has received numerous reports of cash vouchers, which defeats the original purpose of the vouchers.

The department said it noted with concern reports of allegations of the misuse of vouchers issued to support those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the agricultural sector.

Spokesman Reggie Ngcobo: “Producers of substances who are caught selling or using these vouchers for purposes other than those for which they are intended will be barred from receiving any government support in the future.”

Ngcobo said the program was started to tackle the high unemployment rate while also seeking to support self-employment for subsistence producers.
